As the annual “Run for the Rolls” one-miler and 5K race on Saturday August, 26th gets closer to the starting line, the excitement is starting to build in the community for this event now entering it’s tenth year. According to Race Director Cindy Burdette, “We have chosen St Louis Center as the 2017 non-profit charity to support. They have a great wellness program “Fitness for Life,” proceeds will be donated to support their program designed for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities”
St. Louis Center’s Fitness Coordinator Caitlin Bloomquist hopes to have 36 residents to participate in this years even,t and talked about what she is doing to prepare the residents for their 1 mile run/walk this year. “Our residents are constantly active and walking is a big part of our fitness program. Our goal for this years race is to finish as a team and to be active participants in the event. We hope that people will come out at 12:30 p.m. on the 26th before the Chelsea Fair Parade to cheer them on, because they enjoy the encouragement they receive from the community when they participate in these events.”
Thus far, two generous donors have covered the $540 in entry fees for St. Louis Center’s residents to participate, however if you would like to donate more to help the residents, please go to http://fundraising.active.com/event/runfortherolls to make a donation as Run for the Rolls would like to raise $5,000.00 to help St. Louis Center.
